Jason and Shelley Powell run Petals From The Past out on County Road 29 at Jemison, in Chilton County about forty-five minutes south of Birmingham. It is two things at once: a nursery and a fruit farm you can pick out of.
The u-pick list is long for this part of the state — blackberries, blueberries, figs, muscadines, grapes, persimmons and kiwi. Blackberry picking is a June job.
Cut flowers and nursery plants go out of the same place. They are open Tuesday through Saturday, nine to five, and Sunday afternoons; Monday they are closed. Their site keeps availability lists and a shipping schedule, and it changes with the season — check before you drive down.
This ring gets better every time somebody tells us about a place. Send it over — the farm’s name, its town, and where a person can buy what it grows. No fee, no ads sold against anybody, and every link points at the farm’s own page.
