Berry Patch Farm is out at Nevada, roughly an hour northeast of Des Moines over toward Ames. In their own words: “No carnival rides, no cotton candy — just the genuine quiet of the country.”
The picking list is long and runs most of the season — strawberries, black raspberries, blueberries, tart cherries, honeyberries, gooseberries and apples. There is no admission charge to pick.
A bulk store and a country store sit on the place, and pumpkins, gourds and rhubarb come through them. The farm is open Monday through Saturday, eight to six.
