Howell Tree Farm has been at Cumming since 1970, run by the Howell family on over fifty acres of evergreens about twenty minutes southwest of Des Moines. They are members of the Iowa Christmas Tree Growers Association.
It is full service — they cut, shake, bale and load the tree for you. Firs and white pine make up most of the field, with a limited run of Scotch pine. Wreaths, swags, holiday centerpieces, patio trees and evergreen roping come off the same place, and they run a tree spading service.
The season opens the Saturday before Thanksgiving and runs into late December. Note that Howell’s Greenhouse & Pumpkin Patch next door is a separate operation.
