Crooked Gap Farm is owned and operated by Ethan and Rebecca Book on forty acres in Central Marion County, out on what they call the Crooked Road to Melcher outside Knoxville — roughly an hour southeast of Des Moines.
The breeds are heritage and rare: pastured Hereford pork, grass-fed Dexter beef, Katahdin lamb, slow-growing pastured chicken and Champagne d’Argent rabbit. Eggs, farmcrafted soap, produce and preserves round it out.
Ordering runs through their online store — a “You Choose” meat CSA, or whole and half hogs. Their own words for the arrangement: “We look forward to getting to know you as we share our farm with you.”
