McRay Farms has been in the u-pick business since 2019, out at Luther on the northeast side. There is no entrance fee: buckets for picking and boxes for carrying home are provided, and they take cards.
Strawberries are the draw, pick-your-own or pre-picked, with pumpkins in the fall and farm-fresh eggs, honey and seasonal produce off the same place. Beef cattle and alfalfa and grass hay are the working end of it.
Check before you drive out. The farm skipped strawberries recently and has said publicly that whether the crop comes back is undetermined while the family’s schedule changes. Facebook and Instagram carry the announcements.
This ring gets better every time somebody tells us about a place. Send it over — the farm’s name, its town, and where a person can buy what it grows. No fee, no ads sold against anybody, and every link points at the farm’s own page.
