Wichita sits far enough from a state line that this ring stays in Kansas the whole way around, which is not true of most of them. Nine farms, eight towns — Rose Hill and Kechi and Maize close in, Sedgwick and Newton up the I-135 corridor, Augusta east, and two out where the ground turns to Flint Hills.
Those last two stretch the hour. Latham and Burns are both a good drive northeast and east, and we left them in because what comes off that prairie doesn’t have a nearer equivalent — and because one of them carries to two markets in town anyway.

Three farms in this ring hand you a bucket. Meadowlark Farm Orchard & Cidery at Rose Hill runs u-pick strawberries, peaches and apples off an orchard of more than 2,000 apple trees, then pumpkins after. Elderslie Farm at Kechi opens its blackberries from about mid-June to mid-July, and added you-pick flowers new for 2026. Out east at Burns, Walters’ Pumpkin Patch hayrides you out to twenty-five acres of pumpkins, gourds and squash, fall only — the 2026 season opens September 19.
Graze The Prairie runs cattle on roughly 2,000 acres of native tallgrass prairie in the Flint Hills at Latham, Certified Animal Welfare Approved and Certified Grassfed by AGW; they sell online with home delivery and carry to the Old Town and Winter markets in Wichita, and they’ll hold an order if you call ahead. Janzen Family Farms east of Newton pastures an Angus herd year round on land that’s been in the family since 1898, selling by the cut or by the eighth, quarter, half and whole, with pork and flour off a micromill on the place.
One farm on this page advertises it. BoDark Farm near Augusta milks a small grass-fed herd of Nubian and Oberhasli goats, with Jersey cows alongside, and sells the milk raw, filtered and non-homogenized — along with cream and cheese. There are no published hours; pickup is at the farm and you write to [email protected] to arrange it. Grass-fed lamb and free-range eggs come off the same place.
