This is the whole book turned sideways. Every farm the Almanac lists that sells meat or eggs off its own ground is here in one run — 57 of them, in 13 states, sorted by state and then by the city ring each one sits in.
What that covers is not one thing. Some of these places sell by the whole or the half animal and book it ahead. Some keep a store on the farm with cuts by the pound. Some meet you at a market, and some ship. Every line below says which, in the words we found it in, and the farm’s page carries the rest.
A farm earns a spot here on the eggs and meat alone. Plenty of them also pick berries in June or run a patch in October — that’s on their pages too.
Order ahead. A freezer is not a grocery store — what was in it last week is somebody’s deposit this week, and whole-animal orders go on a list that runs to the next processing date. Where a farm publishes prices or hours we list them. Where it doesn’t, we say so instead of guessing.
Eggs and meat is Lane IV of seven. The others — u-pick and orchards, farm stands, raw milk and dairy, CSA shares, pumpkin patches, Christmas trees — run through the same rings.
