Kansas City sits on the state line, so an hour’s drive out of it lands in two states and we’re not going to pretend otherwise. Ten of these farms are in Missouri and three are over in Kansas — one of them inside Kansas City, Kansas, on the west side of town. Every farm below carries its real town and its real state.
Two sit near the outside edge of the hour and we left them in on purpose. Farrar Family Farm is down at Adrian, better than an hour south, but it runs pickup routes into the metro. Green Dirt Farm Creamery is up at Weston, about forty-five minutes north, and it is the only place on this page where you can sit down and eat what the sheep made.

Most of this page runs on the crop and the season, not the calendar — apples start in August, the patches open around Labor Day, and a field that’s green Tuesday is picked over by Saturday. Where a farm publishes hours we list them. Where it doesn’t, we say so instead of guessing.

Six farms in this ring run pick-your-own. Cider Hill Family Orchard is the closest in, on the west side of Kansas City, Kansas, with apples from August into November. Gieringer’s Family Farm at Edgerton runs the longest calendar — strawberries in May through pumpkins in October. North of the river it’s Weston Red Barn Farm at Weston and Apple of My Eye Farm & Orchard at Platte City, which works the orchard ground that ran for years as Alldredge Orchards. South of the city it’s Johnson Farms at Belton. Kerby Farm at Bonner Springs is on the list too, but its pick-your-own is pumpkins rather than fruit.
Two farms in this ring advertise raw milk. Be Whole Again Farm at Excelsior Springs sells 100% grass-fed A2 raw milk and A2 cream out of the silver barn behind the house, and asks you to call or text before a first visit — they also run weekday and Saturday drop-point routes across the metro. Peaceful Hills Farm north of Grain Valley lists raw milk alongside pastured eggs, pork, chicken and grass-fed beef, ordered through their own storefront. A third dairy on this page, Green Dirt Farm Creamery at Weston, is a sheep dairy making cheese rather than a place to buy milk.
Several farms here run a fall patch, and one sells Christmas trees. Weston Red Barn Farm has u-pick pumpkins with festival weekends from around Labor Day. Johnson Farms at Belton runs the patch with a corn maze and a sunflower field. Gieringer’s Family Farm at Edgerton closes out its u-pick calendar with pumpkins in October. Carolyn’s Country Cousins, two miles south of Liberty, has run its patch since 1991. Kerby Farm at Bonner Springs is fall season only and, as of August 2026, had not yet posted its 2026 dates. For a tree it’s Fort Osage Christmas Trees & Weddings at Independence — choose-and-cut on the river bluffs, first planted in 1994.
