St. Louis sits on a state line, so an hour’s drive out of it lands you in two states and we’re not going to pretend otherwise. Seven of these farms are in Missouri and four are across the river in Illinois — Edwardsville and Belleville are closer to downtown than a good deal of St. Charles County is. Every farm below carries its real town and its real state.
Two sit out at the far edge of that hour. Falling Sun Ranch is down at Bonne Terre, about an hour south, and The Crooks Family Farm is west past Villa Ridge. Both stay on the page because they bring what they raise toward town — the ranch to a pickup at Imperial and the Festus market, the dairy to a Sunday delivery run into the city.

Five farms in this ring run pick-your-own. Closest in is Thies Farm & Greenhouses, whose North Hanley place is inside the city and picks peaches, blackberries and flowers daily. North of the river, Herman’s Farm Orchard at St. Charles picks tomatoes and peaches in July and August, then apples in September and October, and Centennial Farms at Augusta runs a hayride out to sixteen varieties of apples. Across in Illinois it’s Liberty Apple Orchard at Edwardsville, twenty-one apple varieties with no field access or parking fee, and Braeutigam Orchards at Belleville, on land one family has held since 1831.
Whit’s End Farm at Wildwood sells Grade A raw goat milk and raw cow milk off a micro dairy milking twenty-five to thirty registered Alpine and Saanen goats and a few Jersey cows, and they welcome you out to the place to buy it. The Crooks Family Farm at Villa Ridge advertises raw A2A2 cow milk, cream and kefir, plus raw Nubian goat milk, and delivers into St. Louis on Sundays. Both publish farm fresh eggs alongside the milk.
One farm on this page, and it is choose-and-cut. Heritage Valley Tree Farm at Washington is a Missouri Century Farm with thirty-odd acres of Canaan fir and white pine, plus fresh fir wreaths and farm grown pecans. Their published 2026 season is November 27 by reservation, then November 28 and 29, December 5 and 6, and December 12 and 13 — Saturdays 9 to 5, Sundays 11 to 5, closing December 13 or when they sell out. Do not turn onto NORTH Four Mile Road; their own directions page says it dead-ends.
